For more than a century, The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh has combined imagination with intellectual curiosity; challenged conventional thinking and provided promise to the patients, students and families they serve. Founded in 1902, The Children's Institute of today provides pediatric rehabilitation through The Hospital; educational programming through The Day School; and adoption and family enrichment services through Project STAR.

The Children's Institute remains independent and today continues as a strong, freestanding, mission-driven nonprofit organization. Inspired by their founders, motivated by their mission and guided by their principled leaders, The Children's Institute is dedicated to promoting the well-being of children, young people and their families and to providing services that meet their special needs.

This represents 12% of The Children's Institute's budget—a figure that is more than double the national average. And the need for this uncompensated care continues to rise—the figure is projected to increase to $5.6 million this year.
