The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation raises funds for the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, the only health care provider in the region dedicated solely to the health and well-being of infants, children, teenagers, and young adults.

The Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation's Family Life Fund provides education, support, and activities to help families cope while their child is in the hospital. Our goal is to heal the entire family and send patients home with a family that feels supported, cared for, and empowered to continue their child's recovery process.

Education

The Family Life Fund helps to create a learning environment while families are at the hospital so that parents can be full partners in the care of their child and contribute knowledge of their child to the plan of care. We also want parents to feel fully prepared to care for their children after they are discharged.

Support

Doctors, nurses, and other clinicians at Children's Hospital are skillful educators about illness and injuries in children, but sometimes a family needs to talk with other parents who have been through a similar situation. They can give advice on living with your child's disease, ways to navigate the health care system, or simply be there to listen to your concerns and worries. The Family Life Fund helps to create this supportive environment for families.

Activities

Hospitalization is not a normal experience for children. The Family Life Fund helps to create a sense of normalcy by offering a wide variety of activities that families can do together. These include movie nights, scrap booking classes, game days, and worship services. In addition, we offer programs for parents' only, such as free massages or coffee house nights to help ease some of the stress associated with a child's hospitalization.

Some of the services that are vital to a child's recovery are not covered by insurance – programs such as music and art therapy, play rooms, special toys and educational games, laptop computers, books and videos, family activities, and much more. The hospital relies on individual and corporate donations to ensure these programs are made available to patients.
