Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation's mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish® experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation was founded in 1980 after a little boy named Chris Greicius realized his heartfelt wish to become a police officer. Since its humble beginnings, the organization has blossomed into a worldwide phenomenon, reaching more than 174,000 children around the world.

Make-A-Wish Foundation® of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc.
The Make-A-Wish Foundationof the Mid-Atlantic, Inc. serves children in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia. Founded in 1983, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc. has fulfilled the wishes of more than 6,000 children fighting illnesses such as cancer, pediatric AIDS, cystic fibrosis, Duchene’s muscular dystrophy and heart disease. Last year, the Foundation fulfilled 337 special wishes.
Recent wishes include visiting the Walt Disney World® Resort, taking family vacations, receiving home computers, having bedrooms redecorated and meeting celebrities including the President. The average wish cost is approximately $7,500. For every dollar donated, 80 cents goes directly toward the fulfillment of wishes.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization that serves children with life threatening medical conditions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland and Northern Virginia. The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia was founded in May 1983 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Bryan was a seven-year-old cancer patient who wanted to visit his favorite uncle in Texas for one of his famous piggy-back rides. Today, the chapter has granted more than 11,000 wishes. We are the first chapter in the world to fulfill more than 700 wishes in one year.
The Foundation has grown steadily with the help of caring people who volunteer their time and support. Thirteen wishes were fulfilled in the first year; now 26 years later, more than 11,000 wishes have been completed. At any given time, there are between 450 and 500 wishes pending. This last year, we granted 705 wishes.
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Pennsylvania and Southern West Virginia was once four chapters that now operate jointly. It includes 57 counties in western, central and northeastern Pennsylvania and 23 countries in southern West Virginia. The chapter is headquartered in Pittsburgh and has siz regional offices in Charleston, WV, Erie, PA, Pottsbille, PA, Punxsutawney, PA, Wilkes-Barre, PA, and York, PA.
